When I was first diagnosed with Epilepsy at the age of 14, doctors thought I would grow out of the disease as I got older. They were wrong. Not only did I not grow out of it, but the seizures it causes grew in number and intensity. I was averaging multiple seizures a week, varying in strength and length. The last big one came in the summer of 2015 while I was out to dinner with my family. The last thing I can remember was being on the ground in an intense and painful full body cramp. When I woke up in the emergency room, doctors told me it was time to find a different medicine to battle my epileptic seizures. My doctor’s actually encouraged me to try medical marijuana, but no one knew just how effective it would be.
Before I found medical cannabis, I was averaging 10 seizures each week. Since coming to HCI in May of this year – I’ve had just one in the last four months!
Seizures are scary. Scary for me and scary for my family. It’s a helpless feeling always “looking over my shoulder” wondering where I’d be the next time a debilitating seizure would strike. I don’t feel like that anymore. Medical cannabis is truly my miracle. Not only has it virtually eliminated seizures, it works naturally with my body so I don’t have the side effects that occurred with the prescription drugs I used to take. For the first time in nearly 20 years, I have my life back and so does my family.
